Let’s Talk about Norman Rush’s SUBTLE BODIES at Duckworth’s Bistrot, Gloucester, MA
October 20, 2013 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The extremely good folks at Eastern Point Literary Press have invited me to lead a book discussion on July 14th at Duckworth’s Bistrot. I’ll be discussing Norman Rush’s magnificent new novel, SUBTLE BODIES, his first in ten years. Rush is the author of the National Book Award-winning MATING, which is in my all-time pantheon of greatest novels, and his latest is a fascinating departure for him. It’s his first book to take place in the United States rather than Africa, and one that reads as a play at times, all while retaining the wit, sensuality, and moral boldness of his earlier work. There will be food. There will be wine. There will be something called a “Ubiquitous Salad” (at least it is on the menu as I add this event on May 6th). Here’s a menu: http://www.duckworthsbistrot.com/menu.htm
Here’s how to get tickets, plus a listing of the other events. Please come and stir up the discussion (mandatory food entendre). Past authors include Chris Anderson and Jenn Monroe! Steve Almond! JoeAnn Hart! Anna Solomon! http://www.easternpointlithouse.com/#!events/c1vw1
Here’s the cover of SUBTLE BODIES:
Please come chat, hang out, and gab about friendship, men writing from a female perspective, virtuosity with language, the promise and limits of protest, and most importantly and beguilingly, what a salad must do to earn the title “ubiquitous.”
